Each installation depends on the surface and site, but generally we remove 60–80mm of existing soil, lay a compacted base of blue metal dust, and carefully install and secure the turf with professional joining, edging, and sand infill for durability.
For upkeep, artificial turf is virtually maintenance-free. Just use a blower to clear leaves (never a rake). For high foot traffic areas, a power broom once or twice a year helps keep the blades standing tall. We can provide this service or you can hire a power broom if needed.

We have types of artificial grass that favour driving on more than others. For very high foot traffic areas, we like to put more TLC into the base, often digging extra out, and adding “scalping”, compacting, before the blue metal dust, and then compacting a second time.

During Canberra’s peak summer heat, surface temperatures can rise significantly, and based on nine seasons of installing a wide range of products, I’ve found that even lawns marketed as ‘cool touch’ don’t always perform as claimed. To reduce heat retention, I recommend integrating shaded zones where possible and lightly watering the turf before use, which rapidly lowers surface temperatures.
